U.S. Forest Service Recreation Area with over 10,000 acres in the Pisgah National Forest including Mackey Mountain, a Black Bear sanctuary area. The primary road connects to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Tent camping and RV sites available. Historic site, Curtis Creek Recreation Area was the first parcel purchased as a result of the Weeks Act. Two Civil Conservation Corps camps were located within this area. Two trout streams, Curtis Creek and Newberry Creek. Handicapped access available on Curtis Creek. Open May - October.
